Tom Miller, founder Pretty Good Productions

I’ve directed the feature documentary films On Wings of the Raven: The Seen and Unseen in the Work of Eero Murtomäki (2019), Puruvesi (2017), and Jukajoki (2016). I also directed the three-part climate change series Our Place on Earth (2017), more than twenty short films, including: Ten Minutes with Minott (2013), For All of We (2015),  In-Between (2017).

I also produce podcasts for BayWa r.e. Solar Systems and Trust for Public Land.

In 2014, I led a multi-phase community-led storytelling project with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, taught classes around the world on film making theory and technique, and lectured at Adobe-sponsored events and at Renesan.

I take a lot of pictures, I love etching and pen & ink work, I score my own soundtracks, and record music.

TESTIMONIALS / GOOGLE REVIEWS

"Tom and I have collaborated on promotional videos and are working on a full-length documentary that involves filming in rainforest conditions, earning the trust of strangers, and very long working hours. Tom is creative, efficient, and always invests himself deeply in the project. Even with short notice, his is able to improvise, consider all options carefully, and bring a sense of ease to any job"

"Tom and I worked together on the Equity Stories Project (http://clfequitystories.squarespace.com/) for the Coalition for a Livable Future. The project was ambitious and complex, with multiple moving parts. Tom’s combination of vision, creativity, professionalism, and project management skills resulted in a high quality final product and made him a pleasure to work with. He was responsive and adaptable as the project scope and work plan evolved, and was able to work effectively with a wide range of people and organizations. I would highly recommend Tom, and I hope to have an opportunity to work with him again in the future."

"Just watched your video on Becca's Kickstarter, and as someone with a film background I have to say it was very well done. You got across the personal side so well, and the choice of music and editing was superb. On the music side, it's nice to see someone get the volume level right, and keep it in the background. Lovely cinematography, too."

"Pretty Good Productions was more than PrettyGood. They were PrettyGreat!! The team was easy to work with in planning and executing our video project, and the final product was very well-produced and captured the feelings and ideas we intended on, even better than we hoped it would. I would highly recommend PGP."

"Tom has worked with me on and off during the school year to help promote the work I do with students. He has been willing to work with hectic school schedules and is always very professional. Tom is great at getting young adults and children to relax in front of the camera and open up. The proof of his talents are in the works that he has produced so far. I hope to continue to work with him on projects in the future."

"I had a wonderful time working with Thomas on the videos for my company's Kickstarter campaign. He certainly knows his craft and was so patient with my endless difficulties in front of the camera and with lots of fine-tune edits and requests. His creative qualities led to two very different and unique videos, each capturing a different sentiment and message, and providing for a very well-rounded end result. Pretty Good Productions was a miracle that practically landed in my lap and I am so grateful. I would be lucky to work with Thomas again and so would you."

“We hired Tom/ Pretty Good Productions to develop a marketing video of our keynote and exhibit we provided at a conference at the University of Portland. His attention to details, the ideas he brought to the piece, and the quick turn-around impressed us. Tom brings a strategic marketing perspective to the project which is a nice combination with his technical and creative talents.
